Baskets of Hope

The Baskets of Hope initiative is now underway!

Baskets of Hope is a Hope for All initiative to help families transitioning from the street to housing by providing additional supplemental items to help families prepare for success. Baskets of Hope does this by supplying household essentials that are not covered by other support programs like WIC or food stamps. This helps families settle more comfortably into their new homes and allows them to focus their resources on other essential needs.

There will be 2 opportunities for contributors at large us to drop off their baskets or basket items.

• November 17th at Rams Head Dockside in Glen Burnie
• November 19 at GL Shacks in Catonsville from 6 to 9. 

Easiest for SCB members will be to bring baskets and/or items right to our church building on ANY Sunday.

New Sanctuary Restrictions Due to Covid 19

The parish leadership team was just notified that beginning this Sunday, November 15, 2020, due to the covid-19 uptick, in accordance with new directives from the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, St Charles of Brazil Sunday liturgies will be livestream only. Access to the sanctuary will be extremely limited most likely for the rest of the year. We will have ministers only, plus the possibility of two parishioners. We can have no more than ten individuals access the sanctuary for worship. We can no longer meet Monday nights in the sanctuary for prayer as well. We are saddened by the severity of the pandemic. We place the safety of St. Charles of Brazil parishioners at highest priority. The parish leadership team wants to convey the message that the safest thing to do right now is for people to stay home on Sundays and attend liturgy on our YouTube channel. We should stay home, and stay connected. The social distancing guidelines reflect sound science, but we must acknowledge the reality that there is increased risk right now. Everyone's safety can never be completely guaranteed. With that however, anyone who does feels comfortable with the increased risk, and wants to volunteer to support the livestream effort and be put on a rotation list for the possibility of being one of the ten people sometimes attending Sunday liturgy should contact Charlie Ernst. We want to thank and commend St. Charles parishioners for the fantastic way in which we came together and put social distancing into practice so that we could share safe liturgies over this past summer. We will get through this time together and be stronger for it. We are staying in touch and sharing in a new way. The Adult Spirituality team has already implemented some zoom workshops. We've planned more advent zoom workshops and one for the new year, and we will be doing fellowship Friday nights on zoom. Feel free to contact us with ideas! Let's keep the faith. More Impact from our KIVA Lending Team

Our KIVA Lending Team, Baltimore Rising, continues to make an impact around the world.  We loaned another $425 to women in need and in areas where loans are difficult to attain.  Our total is now 25 loans totaling $4,325.00.  Contact Damien Robinson if you would like to assist via our Lending Team.

Sunday Livestream for November 15th, 2020

 

Life in a community can be a gift. We join others who share a common purpose. We combine effort to achieve a common goal. But in these cases, much like “group work” assigned to schoolchildren, there can be freeloaders who live of the largesse of others’ efforts whilecontributing little to no effort of their own. [Or actively tearing down or disparaging them.] The parable today reminds us that there will come a tie when God will take stock of each person’s efforts. This is not our work to do, but God’s.
When we hear this parable and others like it, we can be moved to action, investing ourselves more fully in the Christian life. And for the Gospel of Matthew that means service of others, especially the less fortunate [the ones that cannot realistically contribute to the efforts]. May this gospel motivate us to continue serving without accounting the cost, investing fully of ourselves and our talents. There will be an accounting and when there is, we want to hear the words, “Come, share your master’s joy.” – Living Liturgy

Zoom Fellowship: "Fruit Salad" - November 13th, 7 PM

The Parish Life Ministry Team would like to introduce a new model for fellowship for pandemic times, a twice monthly Friday evening 7 pm Zoom fellowship with a different theme each time.  We invite everyone to mark your calendars now for the next Zoom fellowship event this Friday, November 13th,  hosted by Damien and Jane.    This new model will replace both the in-person and Zoom forms of Sunday fellowship we have recently been used to.  If you have any interest in hosting one of our Friday night Zoom fellowship events, please reach out to Ruth or Damien.

An Invitation to Pray

A Prayer Partner is someone we ask to pray with and for us.  The boundaries and parameters of this relationship are developed by the individual prayer partners and is confidential. It can be a one-time prayer occasion, an “as needed” conversation or partners can set up regular, ongoing prayer meetings via telephone or one-on-one in person.

Jesus encourages us to pray for and with others, not just on our own.  A Prayer Partner helps us focus on listening to one another.  A Prayer Partner helps us realize we are not alone; others are praying just as we are.  A Prayer Partners’ primary commitment is to carefully listen to the other without expectation of resolution or advice.

At times we need someone else to pray on our behalf. We may not have the words to pray and need someone else to pray for us.  Hearing our needs prayed by someone else can help to refocus our own prayers.  Jesus taught that prayer is more powerful when prayed by more than just ourselves.

Discernment is listening to God through prayer to get an answer to a question, guidance on a decision, or to reclaim a sense of peace in troubled times.  Discernment needs confirmation through others. It cannot be done in isolation.

Sunday Livestream for November 8th, 2020

The meaning of Jesus’ parables can be difficult [and discomfiting] to discern. And the meaning is polyvalent [multi-faceted]. One can read into them almost anything. The parable we read today should be a clarion call to “be prepared” for the coming of Jesus at the end of times. And even if we think the end times are far, far away, my own personal end (death) may come when I least expect it. So it can be a fruitful exercise to read these parables in terms of my own death: Am I prepared for that? How would I live on this earth if today were my last? Or if this week were my last? Would my priorities shift? This kind of exercise can clarify our own priorities and behaviors. Jesus reminds us that the fools are the ones who were not prepared for the coming of the master. Let us be like the wise ones, attentive to the coming of the Lord, for we know not when that day might be. - Living Liturgy

Display Pictures for All Saints Day

This is a reminder to bring any pictures of your deceased loved ones to Mass this Sunday (November 1st). These will be displayed at the foot of the Altar during the Mass. You will need to take them with you when you leave.
