St. Charles Lenten Appeal Letter from Bishop Anthony Santore

RE: The Saint Charles Lenten Appeal

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

The St. Charles Lenten Appeal was established by the House of Delegates as a way to provide funds to the National Church both to support parishes and missions and individuals in need, as well as to provide a scholarship assistance to lay or clergy to attend the General Assembly. While the costs are the same for each delegate to attend, many have to take expensive plane trips in order to get there. This has been used in the past for those who needed help in defraying those costs.

The season of Lent is generally seen as a period of fasting a time when we give up something, we consider important or valuable. But, what if instead of giving up during these 40 days, we decide to give back? While there are countless ways to give back and do good to support your community.  I ask you this Lent to reflect on our own who have needs. The people who have most benefited from your generosity in the past have been clergy who are not paid money for what they do for you each week. Let this be a way of showing gratitude for a few of our own who may not have as much.

Lastly, we have been living in the midst of this global COVID-19 pandemic for quite some time now, something never experienced before. We suspended all public Masses, we have not been able to gather as a faith community (at least in person).  I want to commend all the parishes and missions for all you have done during the pandemic to continuing to bring the word of God to the people of CACINA and through social media to many others throughout the world. Please, I ask you to stay focused on addressing the needs of the church. I encourage you to simply continue to support the Saint Charles Lenten Appeal.

Know that you have my prayers daily and my gratefulness for all you do and will continue to do.

Your Brother in Christ

Anthony F. Santore

Presiding Bishop of CACINA
